Indianapolis (IN) Southport point guard Paul Scruggs is in the middle of his junior season playing wide receiver on the football field, but that hasn't stopped some of the nation's best basketball programs from recruiting him.
He says he's in regular contact with Indiana, Michigan State, Illinois, Purdue, California and many others.
Indiana's coaching staff is working hard to not let the four-star prospect leave the state.
"They have just been trying to get me up there to the campus to see some football and basketball games," Scruggs said. "I like them. Coach (Tom) Crean is a really chill dude."
Michigan State has had a lot of success dipping down into Indiana for top players under Tom Izzo, and they are hoping Scruggs could be the next.
"I like Michigan State too. They are a really tough basketball team. I talk to Coach Izzo and Dane Fife a lot. They are real chill too. They want to get me there for visits too."
California had an unbelievable 2015 recruiting class headlined by five-star prospects Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb, which certainly intrigues Scruggs.
"They had an awesome recruiting class this year. They are recruiting me hard. I talk to Coach Webster a lot. He's a pretty cool dude."
It's going to be a while before Scruggs comes to a decision on where he'll play college basketball.
"I'm thinking it will probably be middle of my senior year. Education will be a big part of my decision and just seeing if I'm a good fit there."
He's also reluctant to name favorites just yet.
"They all really stand out in their own unique way."
