Ranked in the 2019 Rivals150, big man Malcolm Wilson looks ready to make a big leap forward as a prospect this spring.

A 6-foot-10 center from Columbia (S.C.) Ridge View, Wilson ranks No. 144 nationally. He holds offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, VCU, Georgetown, Hampton and South Carolina State.

“My junior year was pretty good," Wilson said. "I had to take a leadership role on my team because I was one of only two returners. I had to learn to talk to the team but I did the same things you’ve seen before, running and blocking shots. I’ve also gotten better offensively.

“I’ve gotten better scoring around the basket. Right now most of my scoring comes off of offensive rebounds, but I’m getting less nervous when they throw the ball to me on offense.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Wilson took visits to Clemson, South Carolina and VCU during his junior year and broke them down.

Clemson: “The visit was pretty good. Every time I go up there I like what I see and the environment. They make it seem like they really want me there. Even though there may be other recruits there, they make it feel like it’s one-on-one. They want you to meet everybody and know who everybody is."

South Carolina: “Frank Martin, once you get to know him he’s different than what you see in the game. He actually cares, he doesn’t just yell to yell. If I were to go there I feel like I would be better because of his character and how he coaches."

VCU: “They do sort of the same thing as Clemson making sure that I know they really want me there. When I went to their game it was sold out and the energy around the team was amazing. It’s a smaller school with a great community around it and I loved that about it."

RIVALS REACTION, WHAT'S NEXT?

Wilson is very new to the recruiting process and says that he has not even begun to think about cutting things down. He's open to all suitors and more will be coming in.

This spring, Wilson will play on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit with the Upward Stars and he looks like a prospect who could take off nationally. He can run, he blocks shots and he's got a nice motor. We are talking about a prospect who is just focused on getting better and seeing what happens.

“I just want to get better and see what else comes from other coaches and schools," I/m really looking for the best fit in academics and basketball. I don’t really know my best role in basketball yet so if the team and what they are doing lines up with the academics then that would be good.”
