Big Names Pursue Watkins
Darryl Watkins, Paterson (NJ) Catholic's 6-10 senior center, had a number of high Division I programs watch him on Thursday night at the Prime Time Shootout.
Watkins scored 17 points, but it wasn't enough to keep the Cougars from dropping a 67-53 decision to Blair Academy at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth, N.J.

Rivalshoops.com observed Seton Hall's Louis Orr and Brian Nash, as well as North Carolina Asst. Coach Fred Quartlebaum and Villanova Asst. Coach Fred Hill at Watkins' game.
All three of those programs are actively in the mix with Watkins this winter, according to PC Head Coach Tommie Patterson.
Patterson told Rivalshoops.com that North Carolina, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova, Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Kentucky have been in the most consistent contact with him regarding Watkins. Kentucky watched Watkins play last week while a source told us that UNC head coach Matt Doherty may watch Watkins this weekend at the Prime Time.
Indiana, which showed some initial interest last month, does not appear to be in the picture for Watkins at this juncture.
Rutgers Head Coach Gary Waters attended a Paterson Catholic practice last week, while a Kentucky assistant coach attended Watkins' game last week against Hawthorne Christian. However, Watkins' only visit thus far has been to Pittsburgh back in November.
Watkins' recruiting situation is likely to remain unsettled for quite some time, probably until after the end of the high school basketball season in March. Rivalshoops.com will keep you posted on Watkins' situation in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned.
