Big July Ahead For SG From NJ

Art Bowers, a 6-4, 190 pound shooting guard from St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., is an intriguing prospect because of his size. He enjoyed a good junior campaign for the Gray Bees this past season. But now Bowers must produce this summer for Jim Salmon's Playaz team. Bowers played last weekend for the Playaz Black team at the Southern Invitational on the campus of Virginia.
Bowers already has offers from Massachusetts, Temple, Wake Forest, and Rutgers. He told us he remains wide open.

One can see why several other major schools are interested. Bowers' overall offensive game has improved since he transferred from Hodgson Vo-Tech in Delaware to St. Benedict's. He's not just a player who scored cheapies in transition anymore.
Bowers has terrific body control and has always been a good finisher at the basket, but he has also made marked improvement in his shooting. Bowers though must prove this in July if he wishes to land more offers from high division one programs.
St. Benedict's Head Coach Danny Hurley previously said that Maryland, Villanova and Seton Hall were also interested. But it remains to be seen if these schools will stay with Bowers this summer.
