Big Bodied PF Has High Interest

Clarence Matthews, a 6-6, 219 pound power forward from Beaumont Central H.S. in Beaumont, Tex., is a player being evaluated this summer by many high Division I basketball programs.
A broad shouldered and strong athlete with reasonable hops, Matthews played this past weekend at the Great American Shootout with John Eurey's Houston Superstars Elite squad.

Matthews told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that he is being looked at most seriously this summer by Houston, Minnesota, Texas-Arlington, Stephen F. Austin and Lamar. Of those colleges, the only one he has visited unofficially is Lamar.
In addition to those schools, Matthews said he is also being evaluated by LaSalle, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Tulane, Tennessee, Wyoming, Tulsa and Texas El Paso.
This past season at Beaumont Central, Matthews averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks per game. While his skill level is a bit raw, he can wreak havoc on skinnier big men when he comes to play hard.
Matthews said he has a 2.1 GPA, but has yet to take the SAT or ACT exam.
Following the Great American Shootout, Matthews will travel to Las Vegas for the Big Time Tournament and California for the Elite 8 Tournament.
We will keep you posted on his progress as the summer progresses, so stay tuned.
