Benson Has Top Six

Justin Benson, a burly 6-6, 240 pound power forward from Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, Tex., has six schools atop his list this summer.
Benson told Rivalshoops that he has been offered by five of the six schools with the exception of Oklahoma. The five who have offered include Houston, Pepperdine, DePaul, Kent State and UTEP.

He's also considering Tulane and New Mexico State, even though they are not in his current top six. Benson said that both of those programs have offered.
Benson can't take any official visits until he posts a standardized test score. Toward that end, he will take the ACT on Sept. 28 and the SAT in October. Pepperdine, which Benson listed as his leader back at the Nike Peach Jam last month, will get the first official visit the weekend of Oct. 11.
"I am going to sign early, and everybody on my list has a shot," Benson said. "I like Pepperdine a lot, but some of the other schools are also very high on my list."
Benson has scheduled in-home visits with Houston, Pepperdine, DePaul and Kent State. While he couldn't remember a lot of the visit dates, he said DePaul is slated to come in on Sept. 23.
One of the fastest rising players in the Class of 2003, Benson is a fifth-year senior at Gulf Shores Academy. He spent his first three years of high school at Worthing H.S. in Houston, and is entering his second year at Gulf Shores.
Benson played with the Houston Hoops program this summer, and displayed excellent shooting touch for a power forward.
