Benson Decides For New Mexico

Justin Benson, a skilled 6-6, 240 pound power forward from Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, Tex., committed to New Mexico this weekend, according to Justin's family. RivalsHoops.com spoke to Justin's mom. "We said a lot of prayers," Justin's mom told us today. "We spent a lot of time praying. This school Justin felt very comfortable with. The staff has some ties to the Houston area so it's like being away from home but it isn't. All of the schools that recruited Justin were very good to us and it was a hard decision."
Benson previously told Rivalshoops.com that he anticipates picking a college by Oct. 5. He did! He had sliced his list down to six schools, all of whom he said have offered. The six schools were Houston, DePaul, Pepperdine, Kent State, New Mexico and St. Louis.
Justin Benson is an outstanding forward who should be able to score points from both the perimeter and inside. Many scouts overlooked him because of his size. But Benson can play. This is a terrific pickup for the New Mexico program.
