Beers Delivers Big Time Performance

By now, everyone knows that Blair Academy is Luol Deng and Charlie Villanueva's team.
But it was refreshing on Thursday night at the Prime Time Shootout to see 6-1 Siena bound combo/shooting guard Mike Beers step out of their shadows and deliver a terrific performance in the Buccaneers' 67-53 victory over Paterson Catholic.

Beers arguably had his best game of the season. More known for his keen outside shooting, Beers showed sharp point guard skills on Thursday night, racking up 10 assists to go along with eight points as the Buccaneers pulled away from the Cougars in the second half.
"We've been trying to address our quarter court defense and getting our peripheral guys more involved offensively," Blair Head Coach Joe Mantegna said. "I thought we did both today."
Beers was able to hit teammates in a position to score with consistency on Thursday night. Sure, it helps when you're passing to guys like Deng and Villanueva, but his passes to Brandon Lucien, Roberto Felipe and Patrick Davidson were equally critical in helping the Bucs carry out their plan of attack.
So while he rarely captures the spotlight (Villanueva copped the game MVP honors), Beers' accomplishments didn't go unnoticed by Rivalshoops.com. If he can continue that level of play in the Mid Atlantic Prep League and New Jersey State Prep playoffs, the Bucs will be tough to beat.
