Beach Ball Classic rolling

Myrtle Beach, S.C.- The 25th Annual Beach Ball Classic began Monday with four games, including an eight three-pointer performance by future Oklahoma guard
Scottie Reynolds for Herndon (Va.) High School as they defeated Lower Richland (S.C.) High School 64-49.

Reynolds, who was significantly slowed down by a bruised pelvis, was relegated to a catch and shoot role for his Herndon squad. He nailed 8 of 15 three's with all the makes being off the catch. The eight three-pointers accounted for all 24 of his points as he missed his three shots inside the arc and never made it to the free throw line.
Very adept at using screens away from the ball in Herndon's motion offense, Reynolds hit three's off the move and used a jab step and a little fade to shoot over his defender. His ability to create space without the dribble is very similar to Tennessee's sharp shooter Chris Lofton.
Future Syracuse forward Mike Jones struggle from the field for Lower Richmond, only connecting on 4 of 17 shots from the field for 16 points. He did, however, grab 13 rebounds and record 5 blocked shots.
Jones is a very intriguing talent, although raw talent at this point. He has a smooth shooting stroke from the three-point line and the free throw line. At a long 6-foot-7, he can also score with his back to the basket and is a potent offensive rebounder. Defensively, he deflects a lot of passes and is a presence in the paint as a shot blocker.
He does need to develop a pull up jumper in the midrange and learn to attack the basket going left. More importantly, he needs to remove the gaps in his game where he loses focus. On several occasions, he gave up buckets when he zoned out on defense and completely lost his man.
At Syracuse, Jones will be very effective in the 2-3 zone. With some weight gain and a better focus on finishing around the basket, he will be effective at the power forward position. He also has the potential to play on the wing if he tightens up his ball handling.
In other action:
Memphis Ridgeway 51, Dayton Dunbar 46
Daequan Cook poured in 27 points along with 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 5 steals in a losing effort.
St. Edwards 72, Monsignor Pace 62
2008 prospect Delvon Roe paced St. Edwards with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Lakota East 36, Socastee 27
With Scocastee slowing down the pace, James Dews led Lakota East with 14 points and 5 rebounds, although he went 0 of 6 from the arc.
