Baylor adds international big man

Baylor University has added an international big man to compliment their already strong 2005 recruiting class, which was ranked the No. 22 recruiting class by Rivals.com. Jari Vanttaja, a 6-foot-10, 215-pound power forward from Oulu, Finland has signed a letter-of-intent to play for Coach Scott Drew.
“Jari is very skilled for his size and we agree with the Finnish coaches reminds us of a Hanno Mottola, Dirk Nowitski type player,” said Coach Scott Drew. “He can pass it, handle it, and shoot it very well. We are very excited Jari will be representing Baylor Basketball.”

Ranked as the No. 19 international prospect by draftcity.com, Vanttaja was a member of the Finnish Junior National Team. Baylor won out over the recruiting efforts of UCLA, Pittsburgh, and Utah among others to land Vanttaja.
He joins Kevin Rogers, Henry Dugat, Curtis Jerrells and Tony Jones as 2005 Baylor signees.
