Bartram Nips Chester in OT

Charles Jones scored 10 of his team high 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime in leading John Bartram H.S. (Philadelphia, PA) to a come from behind 71-66 victory over Chester H.S. on Saturday night at the Scholastic Play by Play Classic.
In a seesaw battle, Chester grabbed a 61-55 lead with under three minutes to play in the fourth quarter. It was looking bleak for Bartram until unsigned 6-9 senior forward Jason Cain hit a basket to cut the deficit to four. That's when Jones went to work.

Following a Clipper turnover, Jones scored on a drive to pull Bartram to within 61-59 with 1:50 to play. Cain had a chance to knot the game up at the 48.5 second mark, but he missed a pair of free throws.
Chester returned the favor on the other end seconds later when 6-3 senior forward Shaheer McBride (24 points) missed a pair with 46.3 seconds remaining. Nine seconds later, Jones deadlocked the game at 61 when his driving lay-in dropped through.
Although Jones missed a shot to win the game in regulation with three seconds left, he gave Bartram the lead for good in overtime with his basket at the 2:39 mark. With the Braves clinging to a 65-64 lead and less than a minute to play, he made the biggest basket of the overtime session.
Chester set up its defense to pressure the ball and make it difficult for Bartram to make an entry pass into the backcourt. So Jones streaked down the court, caught a football style lob pass, and scored with :31 remaining to push the cushion to 67-64.
A missed three pointer by the Clippers' 6-5 junior forward Eric Cogmon gave Bartram the ball back, and Todd McCoy's pair of free throws with 11.5 seconds left gave the Braves a 69-64 lead and cemented the victory.
Cain, who has become a key high major recruiting target for several high D-I programs, added 16 points in the win. McCoy, a 6-2 senior shooting guard, chipped in 15 points.
Aside from McBride's 24 points, athletic swingman Jon Thompson (12 points) was the only other Clipper player to hit for double figures.
