Bama adds dose of athleticism

THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016

As the summer wore on, Alabama's Anthony Grant and his staff realized more and more that they wanted to focus on adding athleticism in 2015's class to complement 2014's skill-based class. That meant guard Dazon Ingram looked more and more attractive.
Monday night, the 6-foot-4 guard from Theodore (Ala.) High announced that he would roll with Grant and the Tide for his college years.
What is most interesting about Ingram's commitment is that after watching him last winter, he is a player Alabama was unsure of. He had all of the athletic tools of an SEC player and could get to the rim, but he didn't showcase much as a shooter and he had strides to make as a decision-maker.
However, after getting their 2014 class on campus, the Tide kept making their way back to Ingram as somebody that could give them a needed dose of athleticism. Then as the summer wore on, Ingram along with his size and drive-first style looked more and more like he could be a complement to the smallish jump shooter Justin Coleman that they landed in 2014.
By the end of the summer the Alabama staff had thrown everything they had at him and they got him on campus as soon as possible. Ultimately, that summer push got the job done.
Now, make no mistake, Ingram is not a finished product and he has some work to do in terms of decision-making and jump-shooting. However, he is physically ready for the SEC and Rivals.com has the same belief that Alabama does that Ingram projects long term as a big and athletic point guard.
Ingram is the third member of the Alabama Challenge summer squad to commit to Alabama from the class of 2015. He joins scrappy and athletic small forward Brandon Austin and slender big man Donta' Hall in the Crimson Tide's recruiting class. All three are rated as three-star prospects and it is important to note that for now, at least, Ingram plans to wait until the spring to sign his letter of intent.
