Ball State adds a big commit

Melvin Goins, a 6-foot point guard from Christian Life Center in Humble, Texas, is headed to Ball State.
The three-star guard visited the school over the weekend and told new head coach Ronnie Thompson that he was ready to help lead the team back to the NCAA tournament.

"He was their first guy on their list," Coach Johnson of Christian Life Center said. "He went up there and liked how they made him their number one guy. Coach Thompson is a young guy that is going to get the job done and Melvin should play a lot of minutes. He has a chance to be an all-conference kid there."
Goins is an athletic point guard that missed a good part of the AAU season because of a broke forearm. He has since recovered and is playing is best basketball, he says. Goins had interest from a handful of Big 12 schools as well.
Johnson believes Ball State can use Goins right away and help steer the program in the right direction.
"He can come in there and play right away and play with the ball in his hands," Johnson said. "That is what he is all about. And he loves coach Thompson."
