Ayala will make reclassification decision later this summer

CERRITOS, Calif. – The potential to reclassify into the 2017 remains on the table for Rivals150 guard Eric Ayala. A super-efficient and polished combo guard that has continued to pulverize his opponents this spring thanks to his feel, IQ, strong body and versatility, the junior guard is not short of suitors at the college level.

Finishing out his senior summer on the Under Armour circuit as the headliner for the We R1 17-under bunch, Ayala has major decisions to make about his reclassification.

“I am fully qualified at all of the aspects with my academics. So, as far as that, I am fine,” Ayala said. “Right now, I am probably going to make a decision after July, after the last live period.

“It is still up in the air. I am thinking about it a lot. I just haven’t pin-pointed my decision yet but I am definitely coming close to it.

“Mostly all of the schools that I talk to would take me whenever I want to come out. Everybody is recruiting at a steady pace. Miami came to see me during the school year, Syracuse, Oregon, Arizona, Indiana, LSU; just a lot of schools are staying steady.”

Ayala touched on a few of the schools involved.

Syracuse: “I know how good G-Mac (Gerry McNamara) works with his guards. Skill development is something big with me. Anywhere I choose, skill development has to be something that will be very important in making my decision. I know G-Mac is very hands on with his guards and that he gets them better.”

Oregon: “They are just making my feel comfortable and telling me that they will take me today or tomorrow, it doesn’t really matter. They just want me to come in; they have a lot of open spots due to the draft and some transfers and guys graduating. They have a lot of minutes available.”

Indiana: “Archie Miller, whenever he got the job, he reached out and told me I had a scholarship. I have been talking to him and his assistant for a while now. They are definitely involved as much as anybody. My recruitment is wide open.”

LSU: “They are just selling their skill development; they had a skill development guy that came from Wichita State. They send me stuff on their workouts and how they get their guards better. Their workouts are very intense.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Besides selecting a college to attend, Ayala first must decide when he wants to attend one. That decision should be made in the beginning of August, coming off of his final weeks of play with the We R1 program. Thereafter, a college decision should occur immediately after.

RIVALS' REACTION

Things have gone back and forth on Ayala’s decision to reclassify. At the time being, things are headed in the direction of a fall enrollment as Syracuse should be seen as the favorite to land the talented and productive four-star guard.
