Atlanta point guard has ACC, SEC taking notice

The state of Georgia pumps out good players and it seems like new prospects pop up on a daily basis. Ryan Greer, a point guard in the 2019 class, emerged as a prospect to keep a close eye on with a strong playoff run taking his team to the Elite 8.

“(The season) went well,” Greer said. “We weren’t expected to go that far, but we just started playing well. A lot of teams tried to take me away, but we played off that and made it work.”

After averaging 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists this season and sprouting up to 6-foot-2, schools are slowly starting to take notice of Greer’s ability. Clemson, Davidson, Middle Tennessee and Georgia Southern are the first schools to get in line. He’s already taken unofficial visits to both Clemson and Davidson.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Greer discussed schools who are showing interest in him.

“If I had my top five, they’d be Georgia, Georgia Tech, Davidson, Vanderbilt and Virginia,” he said.

Clemson: “I went to Clemson when they played Virginia. I like it a lot. Their new arena is really, really nice and they almost won that game. The associate head coach gave me a tour after the game and he just talked to me and said he would come watch me soon.”

Davidson: “I went up to Davidson too and I liked it a lot as well. They’ve been in contact with one of my coaches a few times throughout the year. I’ve been following them this year and they had a down year, but I like their coach a lot and I know they’ll be better. They are usually really good.”

Georgia Tech: “I like Georgia Tech because it’s close to home. My brother goes to Georgia Tech and I’ve been to a few of their Power Hours with their coaches and I’ve talked to Coach [Josh] Pastner. I really like their program.”

Georgia: “With Georgia, it’s close to home. I like Coach (Mark) Fox and I like the way he coaches. I’ve been to one game there but not on a visit. J.J. Frazier is really good and he basically runs their team. They are doing well.”

WHAT'S NEXT

Greer will spend the upcoming travel season once again playing with a very talented Atlanta Xpress team where he’ll be in the backcourt with four-star shooting guard Anthony Edwards. Once the travel season is over, he’ll likely be transferring to Northfield Mt. Hermon for the final two years of his high school career.

RIVALS REACTION

Greer will definitely be a prospect college coaches will want to check in on soon. He possesses good size at point guard, has a smooth stroke from three-point range, and a really good feel for the game. He’s not going to overwhelm anybody with his athleticism, but he never seems to have trouble getting by defenders and making plays in the paint. Combine his basketball ability with being a top-notch student and he’ll likely have no shortage of options.
