Atkins To Stay Close To Home

Tariq Atkins, a 6'3'' 185 pound shooting guard/small forward from St. Raymond's High School in The Bronx, committed to Iona last night after visiting the school officially over the weekend.
Atkins had also seen interest from Seton Hall, Drexel, and St. Peter's. The pledge marks yet another Iona commitment from the New York City Catholic League(CHSAA). The MAAC program has done an outstanding job of keeping local talent home the last few years. Last year's class included four players from the CHSAA: Rice's Steve Burtt, Jr., and All Hallows' Marvin McCullough, Ricky Soliver, and Kiril Waschmann.

Atkins is a tough wing who showed this summer that he can knock down the three as well as attack the glass. Rivalshoops.com likes his toughness and durability. Atkins may have the strength to play some small forward in the MAAC. Time will tell.
Tariq was one of the key elements in The New York Ravens' title run at The Vegas Big Time Tournament this summer
Tariq carries a B- average at St. Ray's. He still needs a qualifying SAT score, and will have a couple of shots at the mark this fall.
