Three-star 2010 prospect Eric Atkins of Columbia (Md.) Mount St. Joseph High School did his homework and then found the perfect fit in the Big East.
Chalk up the first 2010 commitment for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. After visiting Virginia, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt and UMass, Atkins, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound point guard, couldn't pass up on Notre Dame after his visit there this weekend.
With point guard Tory Jackson graduating next year, the table is set for Atkins to lead the Notre Dame attack.

"I really felt comfortable with Coach Brey and the school," said Atkins. "I had a great time on my visit this weekend.
"The playing time that Coach Brey talked about was something I didn't want to pass up."
Atkins, who runs with the DC Assault program on the travel circuit, averaged 23 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals per game as a junior.
