"Yes, Tyrone has decided to back out of his commitment to Pepperdine and is going to reevaluate his recruitment," said Tyrone Armstrong, Sr. "We have been thinking about doing this since about midway though the summer.
"Tyrone was such a young man when he gave a commitment to Pepperdine," he added. "My son wants to take some visits this time around, reevaluate his situation and make the best possible decision.
Prior to giving a commitment to Pepperdine back in March of 2004, Armstrong had been receiving a great deal of interest from the likes of Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA and Fresno State. Now that the 6-foot-7 small forward is back on the market, a number of high-major schools are beginning to show an interest in Armstrong.
Aside from the aforementioned programs, Armstrong is also interested in Arkansas, Memphis, Oregon State, Pacific, Southern California and others. Mr. Armstrong made it perfectly clear that his son is completely wide-open when it comes to his recruitment.
"Tyrone is wide-open right now," said Armstrong. "We are currently looking at a lot of different teams. Tyrone will probably take an official visit to Arkansas in the future. He could also take a visit to Pacific, Oregon State, Memphis and possibly USC.
"We are willing to listen to any and all schools that are interested in recruiting Tyrone," he added. "I can tell you that I believe my son is going to sign in the spring because of his decision to back out of his commitment to Pepperdine. Tyrone wants to take all five of his visits, check out some of the campuses and then make his decision."
