Arizona PG Gaining Steam

Darren Jordan, a 6-foot, 180-pound point guard from Trevor Browne (Ariz.) High School in Phoenix, has had a productive start to the AAU season. The floor general has run an efficient offense with the Arizona Magic and he’s also shining at the individual level at a number of individual camps.
Jordan participated in last weekend’s Pangos All-American camp in Southern California as well as the a number of AAU events across the country. Jordan said the engine is beginning to gain some steam heading into the busy and competitive month of July.

“I thought I played pretty good at the Tournament of Champions and the Pangos. My game really picked up in North Carolina (at the TOC),” Jordan said. “I think I ran the team pretty well. The first two tournaments weren’t our best. We had some chemistry issues but it came together. And at the Pangos, I thought I did really well.”
Running the show for the Arizona Magic, Jordan has plenty of options to work with. Lawrence Hill, Harvey Perry, Joey Shaw and a number of other Division I prospect dot the roster. Jordan said the team gives him the opportunity to practice running a college like team.
“We are loaded team. We have some players on it,” Jordan said. “It took us a while to learn how to play with each other. My coach keeps telling me that this is a team of superstars and that is how it is in college. Everyone was a superstar in high school. So playing with superstars now helps me learn how to run a college team.”
The Long Island, New York native will return to the Northeast when he participates in the Reebok ABCD camp in July. While there, Jordan said he hopes to impress the flock of college coaches in attendance. The rising senior has sparked the interest of a handful of schools already.
He said Nebraska, San Diego, Wichita State, Kansas, Alabama State, Clemson, Iowa and Iowa State have been involved. Jordan will be making an unofficial visit to San Diego next Friday. He has also taken the SAT and is awaiting his score.
The point guard averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists last year at Trevor Browne.
