In the middle of a whirlwind group of official visits that saw him visit, Utah and North Carolina before finishing up at Arizona in the last week, Finnish power forward Lauri Markkanen committed to the Wildcats on Saturday.
A 6-foot-10 four man with a vast skill set and diverse offensive game, Markkanen currently ranks on the high end of the four-star range but as Rivals has been able to evaluate more film he has been moving closer and closer to five-star status.
First of all Markkanen moves fluidly for a a player his size and he is a top notch athlete. He can shoot with range to the three point line, handles the ball proficiently for a power forward and is an instinctual rebounder with above average hands.
Markannen does need to add more bulk to his lean frame, but by no means should he be considered weak. He is a willing fighter around the rim and doesn't shy from physical play.
Because he is an International player and the only way to see him is via film there is a little by of mystery to him. But the film and opinions of NBA sources that Rivals has spoken with suggest that Markkanen is a significant pickup for Sean Miller and his staff.
Arizona getting a commitment from Lauri Markkannen is a very good start to the 2016 class. He became a big priority for the 'Cats— Matt Moreno (@MattGOAZCATS) October 17, 2015
