Archbishop Spalding Forward Decides

Another Archbishop Spalding High School inside player is headed to a Division I program. Guss Durr, Jr., a 6-7, 220 pound combo forward committed to Mount St. Mary's College.
"He and Will Bowers (Maryland) will be signing National Letters of Intent on Wednesday," said Mike Glick, head coach at Spalding.

"Mount St. Mary's recruited him very hard especially after the Eastern Invitational," Glick said. "Iona and Fairleigh Dickinson were also interested."
Next year, Durr will be re-joining point guard Landy Thompson at the Emmittsburg, MD program. Durr averaged 6.0 points and 3.4 rebounds last season.
"We've started practice," he added, "And had a good scrimmage on Saturday with Notre Dame Academy [from Middlesburg, VA]."
Spalding will playing in the Morgan Wooten Invitational next month at Maryland's Comcast Center. more info
Glick, who runs a strong athletic and academic program, also has three juniors who are getting Division I looks.
Rudy Gay, a 6-7, 205 pound forward, has over 70 high major Division I schools interested especially since he made the move to work on his academics. He averaged 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds for Baltimore County's Eastern Tech last season and was orginally headed to Annapolis HS but decided on Spalding instead.
Jesse Brooks, a 6-0, 150 pound point guard, started as a sophomore making it possible for Thompson to focus more on scoring. Brooks averaged 5.4 points, 4.2 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals and had a 2.5 assist to turnover ratio.
Jason Loughry, a 6-11, 215 pound center, will see more action as Bowers' backup this season. He averaged 1.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in limited playing time as a sophomore.All these players also complete with Jeff Bowden's Baltimore Select AAU program.
Spalding will be competing in a couple other national tournaments this season. They will be making a return trip to the Christmas holiday Slam Dunk to the Beach in Rehoboth Beach, DE and they will be one of the 12 national teams at the inaugural Flying to the Hoop Invitational in Dayton, Ohio over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. In addition, Spalding will compete in the Baltimore Catholic League Tournament at the end of February. And don't be surprised to see the Cavaliers invited to the postseason Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament at Frostburg State College in western Maryland.
