AR, FL, BC, IL, Others Visiting Monk

Marcus Monk, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound wing forward from East Poinsett High School in Lepanto, Arkansas is in the process of narrowing his list of schools down to five. Once the April long contact period is over, he will sit-down and evaluate all his option.
Monk is everything a coach could dream for on and off the basketball court. On the court he averaged 26 points, 14 rebounds and 5.2 assists a game. Off the court he's on track to become East Poinsett’s first African American Valedictorian, carries a 3.95 GPA and scored an 1130 on the SAT.

When you combine the two attributes its no wonder that many high major programs are paying Monk a visit during the contact period.
“Several schools have already been here to visit Marcus and many more are coming,” East Poinsett head coach Kevin Kyzer said. “Boston College is coming in on Tuesday the 21st and Northwestern is coming to visit on Thursday the 24th. Arkansas and Vanderbilt have already been here to visit and I will say that those two schools had great visits.
“Florida, Connecticut, and Memphis are all coming in for visits. Illinois has been showing quite a bit of interest,” he added. “The head coach of each school has personally made the trip and brought an assistant with him.”
The Kansas Jayhawks had been showing interest in Monk, but Roy Williams recently accepted an offer to become the head coach at North Carolina. KU is in the process of looking for a new coach; so many prospects are waiting for a new coach to be hired before they determine their level of interest.
“If Bill Self is hired as the new head coach at Kansas, they won’t lose a step,” Kyzer said. “Assistant Coach Tim Jankovich has been recruiting Marcus, so they are very familiar with each other.”
Once the April long contact period is over, Monk will have a better feeling of what schools he’s really interesting in and, more importantly, what schools have an interest in him.
“Marcus is going to trim down his list of schools to five at the end of April,” he said. “I know that Boston College is hoping to get him in for a visit around that same time. His recruitment will start to get serious in a few weeks.”
