Another Look At Reggie Butler

Reggie Butler, a very athletic 6-6, 205 pound small forward from Long Beach Poly H.S. in Long Beach, Calif., has signed with Fresno State.
"Coach Lopes visited my house a few weeks ago, and what stood out a lot was his drive for academics more than basketball," Butler said. "My mom took a lot of initiative in that too, and I think it was a good decision for me."

Butler picked Fresno after considering Arizona, Wake Forest, Southern California, Kentucky and Miami.
"Kentucky really wasn't coming hard, but Wake Forest and Arizona were coming on strong, but I knew if I couldn't make the test that I could not prop in the PAC 10 or ACC, so it seemed like Fresno was a good place for me from both standpoints," Butler said. "As far as basketball, they are a great basketball program who is going to be led by a new guy, so I think it's going to be a nice start for a a new program."
Butler said he has a qualifying core GPA but needs to boost his test score in line with NCAA standards for initial freshman eligibility. He is taking the ACT in June and has already taken the SAT a few times.
"Whether I qualify or not I will attend Fresno State," Butler said. "I was getting recruited by some junior colleges, but that was not really in my plans."
In fact, Butler is taking his official visit to Fresno this upcoming weekend (May 18-19).
Butler had a fine senior campaign at Long Beach Poly, where he teamed with Washington signee Bobby Jones to form a dynamic one-two punch. He averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists per game this past season.
We will keep you posted on Butler's attempt to attain a qualifying test score, so stay tuned for more info in the weeks to come.
