Andre Allen Down to Three

Few players win their state’s Mr. Basketball award twice. Memphis point guard Andre Allen has not only won this prestigious award twice for the state of Tennessee, but will have a chance to win it a third time this year as a senior.
After being highly recruited since his freshman year, the No. 32 ranked player in the Southeast 34 has narrowed his list of schools to three.

“Andre is considering Houston, Tennessee, and Arkansas,”said Coach Horton, Allen’s coach at Booker T. Washington High School. “He just got back from visiting Houston, and he enjoyed it a lot.”
The 5-foot-8, 170 pound scoring point guard has yet to scheduled visits with Tennessee and Arkansas.
“Andre will definitely visit the other two schools,” continued Coach Horton. “He has been in constant contact with Tennessee for a long time. Ever since his visit with Tennessee last year, they have been very close.”
Despite the prolific play of Allen over the years, the buzz at Booker T. Washington is more about the prospects of this years team than Allen’s recruitment.
“We have a chance to be very good,” Coach Horton asserted. “I don’t want to put my foot in my mouth. You know what a crazy sport basketball is, but we plan to do well.”
There are several reasons for Coach Horton’s optimism.
“We have five players off of our state championship team of two years ago,” Horton said. “We have another quality point guard, so we can move Andre to the shooting guard if we want to. And we picked up a 6'7 freshman named Jerry Hampton and a 6'8 freshman named Spencer Jones.”
Coach Horton believes Allen’s enormous impact at Booker T. Washington will carry over to the next level.
“He has speed, strength, ball handling, and he can score. He does a lot. He competes and is a leader. First he gets players involved and then he takes over. But most of all, he can put the ball in the basket for you.”
