Allan Ray Speaks About Villanova

TEANECK, NEW JERSEY -- Allan Ray, a 6-1 off/combo guard from St. Raymond's H.S. in the Bronx, N.Y., told the Insiders Report that he picked Villanova for a variety of reasons yesterday at his 5:15 p.m. press conference.
Ray told the Insiders Report that he picked the Wildcat program over Miami, Seton Hall, Memphis and North Carolina State.

He had already taken a pair of unofficial visits to Villanova and his parents made the trip to the school last Friday, and that helped to salt the deal.
"There is going to be an opportunity for me to play there," Ray said. "It's a nice school that's not too far away from home so I will be able to go back and forth, and my parents will be able to see me play. It was just the right situation for me."
Ray, an accomplished offensive player, is an aggressive hybrid guard who loves to push the attack off the dribble and get to the basket. Even if his outside shot is not falling, he makes things happen by being aggressive.
But exactly where will he fit into Villanova's attack come the fall of 2002?
"He recruited me as a combo guard, to come in and play the one and two," Ray said of Villanova Head Coach Jay Wright. "Someone who can score and make plays for team."
Ray was relieved to get the decision out of the way early in the summer.
"I just wanted to get some of the pressure off my chest," he said. "I had a good feeling about Villanova. I really liked it a lot and so did my parents. I don't have to worry about the coaches anymore and trying to impress everybody. I can just go out there and play my game."
