Alex Carmona Talks About His Future

All Alex Carmona, a 6-5 forward from Troy High School in Ohio, wants to do is play basketball and graduate from high school. "I am a US citizen," Carmona said. "I have been going to school here for two years. This will be my third year."
Carmona (pictured right) turned 18 and wanted to change his residence. He would be labeled as "an emancipated student" which means he is not living with his legal guardians in Troy, Ohio.

Because of this, he must follow some "interesting rules" by the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He must fill out a tremendous amount of paperwork. The OSHAA forces a student like Alex to get a job and make at least $250 a month. He must also hand in receipts for rent, grocery, and utilities.
We can only print what has been published or told to us. But lawyers following this case have a far better idea on what the legal issues are and what rights Alex has. But Carmona has to overcome some interesting requirements.
Carmona would have to turn that paperwork in to Troy High School each month. It would then be handed over to the OHSAA. "I don't understand these rules," Carmona said. "I am not a foreign student. I am a US citizen. All I want to do is graduate from high school and play basketball."
This would be the third straight year Carmona would be attending high school at Troy. One wonders if the OHSAA is trying to help this young man graduate from high school or put up more obstacles in his way. Let's hope the state of Ohio gives him a chance to make it to the college level.
