Avery Johnson and Alabama have kicked off their 2018 recruiting efforts by landing a four-star point guard.

Monday night, Jared Butler gave the Crimson Tide the nod selecting them over his other finalists Baylor and Virginia.

“I like the direction they are going in and what they are doing over there," Butler told Rivals.com after his official visit to Alabama. "They are becoming more of a basketball school too. I like what they have planned there a lot.”

After 2017's monster effort, landing Butler proves that Avery Johnson isn't going to be a one hit wonder on the recruiting trail.

More importantly, the Tide couldn't make it through the 2018 recruiting cycle without a high level point guard. More than likely freshman Collin Sexton will be leaving for the NBA after this season and finding somebody to help replace him was a must.

Butler is not the same style player as Sexton, but he has all of the tools to be an effective SEC point guard. He's all about taking care of the ball, getting his teammates involved and when he needs to score he's a dangerous three point shooter who has sneaky athleticism off the dribble.
