Alabama fills needs with shooter based class

What a week it has been for Anthony Grant and the Alabama Crimson Tide as they lock in on a very important 2014 recruiting class. On Wednesday, the Tide landed their third Rivals150 prospect of the week.
Fresh off the heels of commitments from four-star prospects Justin Coleman and Riley Norris, 6-foot-3 shooting guard Devin Mitchell of Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill announced for Alabama.
Currently ranked as the No. 130 player in the 2014 Rivals150, Mitchell is also the third high end shooter to pick the Tide and could be the best of the bunch.
Playing with the Georgia Stars, Mitchell established himself as one of the most dangerous net strippers in the entire class of 2014. During play in Nike's prestigious Elite Youth Basketball League, Mitchell connected on over 42% of his shots from the land of three and he's excited to join Alabama's class.
"I knew Alabama was the place for me," Mitchell told TideSports.com. "I've known for a while. I'm excited to get to play with Justin and Riley. We all bring a little something to the program. Justin makes plays and Riley can fill it up. I like to think I can fill it up, too."
For the last few years, outside shooting has been a real thorn in the side of Grant's teams. During Grant's first four seasons, the Crimson Tide has shot 35%, 29.8%, 28.9% and 33.5% from beyond the three point line.
Those woes are something that Coleman, Mitchell and Norris should help alleviate and they each do it with their own style. Coleman is more of a playmaker off the dribble and a fearless gunner. Norris has size and could even play as a stretch four while Mitchell is a classic catch and shoot/spot up guy.
Next Alabama is going to need to find a big guy or two to go along with these shooters. But, as they prepare to leave for a two week European tour, Grant and his program can feel good about the work they've done over the last week.
