Al Horford Headed To Florida

There was a time when it looked like Al Horford was a lock to attend Michigan. The 6-foot-8, 211-pound power forward from Grand Ledge High School in Grand Ledge, MI., had given a commitment to the Wolverines, but backed out after having second thoughts. Horford recently returned from an official visit to Florida and decided that he wanted to be a Gator.
“No, I’m through taking official visits,” Horford said. “Actually, I’ve given a commitment to Coach Donovan and Florida. I officially visited the school during Midnight Madness and loved everything about it.

“My dad and I had some concerns about Michigan, so that’s why I backed out of my commitment,” he added. “Once that happened, Florida became my leader. My dad is very happy about this decision and has been very supportive throughout my recruitment.”
Horford realizes the Gators are loaded at just about every position, but he is ready for the challenge and feels that he can be an immediate impact type player.
“I know that Florida has a lot of great players at my position, but that doesn’t worry me,” Horford said. “I think I can go in right away and help this team. It will definitely take a lot of hard work, but I think I can get it done.
“The coaching staff sees me helping out at the power forward position, which is just fine with me,” he added.
Rivals.com ranks Horford No. 89 on the Rivals150 list and the 26th best power forward in the class of 2004.
