Afflalo Happy To Be A Bruin

Arron Afflalo, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound combo guard from Centennial High School in Compton, California couldn’t be happier about his decision to attend UCLA. Do not be surprised if other high profile players from that area start making the same decision.
“I’m pretty much a Bruin and I don’t see myself changing my mind,” Afflalo said. “Coach Howland has been doing a lot of recruiting lately and I think he will get some great players to come in with me.”

The last few years have not been very friendly to the UCLA Bruins. Top players from the state of California have not been staying to play at home, but leaving for greener pastures. It's almost as if Afflalo made it ok to be a Bruin again.
Afflalo has the rest of his summer planned and, as expected, basketball will consume most of it.
“I’ve got two team tournaments left and three individual camps to attend,” Afflalo said. “I’ll be playing in the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions and the Adidas Big Time with my Southern Cal All-Star AAU team.
“I’ll also take part in the USA Festival, NBA Players Association Camp and either Nike Camp or Adidas Camp,” he added. “I think I’m leaning toward Adidas Camp instead of Nike.”
It might not look like an overwhelming schedule, but Afflalo has already traveled to Las Vegas, Houston, Texas and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
While Afflalo is having fun and trying to enjoy the busy schedule, he is also working on his game and, at the same time, preparing for his senior year.
“I’m working on all areas of my game,” he said. “I’ve got some strengths that I’m trying to improve upon and I’ve got some weaknesses that I want to improve upon as well. I am not focusing on one area, but all areas of my game.
“I'm hoping to put everything together and be a complete player before the end of this summer,” he added.
As far as his senior year goes, Afflalo has several goals in mind. He is not interested in individual goals, but more concerned about how well his team performs.
This is his last go-around, so he wants to exit on top.
“I want to win a state championship real bad,” he said. “I’ve played in one state championship and three CIF championships and I haven’t won any of those. I’ve gotta win a championship my senior year.”
Afflalo anticipates seeing time at the point guard position and shooting guard position next year.
He doesn’t see that changing much when he arrives on the UCLA campus. He will keep playing the point guard position and he hopes to keep improving on those skills.
