A New Set of Five for Downey

The No. 42 ranked player in the Rivals150 Devan Downey has had two enjoyable visits to Tennessee and most recently Arkansas. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound point guard from Chester (S.C.) High School still has three more visits to go, with two of those schools being new to his list.
"My top five are Tennessee, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Texas, and Illinois,” said Downey. “I don’t have a favorite. I want to go into all my visits open minded and without a leader. I will probably decide after my final visit."

Downey spent this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., and had a great time on his visit.
"I liked it,” he said. “The best thing about it was the football game. The fans were going crazy. I had a great time. I had a chance to get to know Coach Heath and the rest of the coaches better. They are all good guys. I also got to play pick up ball with the team, and that was a lot of fun. I liked the campus. It was really nice."
Cincinnati will host Downey this next weekend, and then he visits Texas and Illinois on the next two weekends. Illinois and Texas are newcomers to Downey’s list, replacing Maryland and Miami.
Extremely fast with the ball, Downey can create scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates. Along with his ability to play fast and shoot the ball, he is also adept at controlling a team and managing a game. He is searching for the program that will put the ball in his hands early and let him run with it.
“I’m looking for who has the best situation for me basketball wise,” he said. “I want to come in and get some early playing time."
