A look at Andre Vanterpool, a 6'5'', 185 pound shooting guard/small
forward from Manhasset High School in Long Island, NY.

Vanterpool impressed Rivals Hoops with his slashing
ability and athleticism recently at the Connecticut
Select tournament playing with the Long Island
Roadrunners, and at the Hoops For Heroes Charity event
at Hofstra. The wiry Vanterpool is a good leaper and
effective slasher, knifing through defenses.
Vanterpool averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds, three
blocks, and three assists for coach Bruce Minerly at
Manhasset last season.
Vanterpool has heard from Rider, Wagner, Stony
Brook, and Central Connecticut. He does not have any
offers yet.
Vanterpool has not taken any visits yet, and does
not have any planned.
"Coaches love his athleticism," said Minnerly. "He's a very good
athlete, and handles the ball real well. I see him as
a "2" or a "3" at the next level. He has a decent
15-18 foot jumper, and can hit the three."
Manhasset plays in a fairly low profile league on
Long Island, and while local college programs are
aware of Vanterpool, Manhasset is off the beaten path
on the basketball map, so Vanterpool hasn't gotten
much recognition at this point.
Vanterpool carries a C- average. He just took the
SAT again, and was confident that he notched a
qualifying score.
"At this point, he doesn't predict (to qualify),"
said Minerly. "But his attitude change recently has
been like night and day. He's starting to achieve
academically, and is doing much better. I think by the
end of the year, he would predict (to qualify)."
Vanterpool will make a late decision.
