A Closer Look at Jason Carters Decision

Jason Carter, a very athletic 5-9 sophomore combo/shooting guard from Barton County C.C. in Great Bend, Kan., signed with Hawaii after taking a trio of visits this spring.
JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com caught up with Barton Head Coach Ryan Wolf on Monday afternoon, and he gave us a little more background on Carter's spring decision.

Carter took trips to South Carolina, Wichita State and Hawaii before casting his lot with Riley Wallace's Rainbow Warrior program.
"I think it's a great signing for him," Wolf said. "He narrowed it down to three really good schools, and it eventually came down to Wichita State and Hawaii, and I think he handled the process very well."
"I think he felt comfortable academically at Hawaii, and he looked at some factors beyond just basketball, like getting a job after he gets done playing," Wolf continued. "Plus the fact that they've been to the NCAA Tournament the last two years was big with him also."
Carter is a player who likes to play fast and loose, and his decision-making can be questionable at times. However, he is a scintillating athlete with a knack for scoring on the break and in bunches from the perimeter when clicking on all cylinders.
Last month at the Region VI Tournament in Salina, Kan., Coach Wolf told us that Carter was being looked at by Texas El Paso, South Carolina, Oregon State, Cincinnati, East Carolina and Duquesne.
A third-year sophomore who red-shirted at Barton in 1999-2000, Carter averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 2001-2002. He started all 30 games he appeared in, missing just one contest the entire season. Carter shot 48 percent from the field and 34 percent (49/146) from beyond the three point arc.
