7-foot-1 Bennett improving

The adage is that you cannot teach size, and at 7-foot-1, 238-pounds, Jason Bennett has size. Playing against Tyler Hansbrough last Saturday night, Bennett, from Arlington Country Day High School in Jacksonville, Fla., utilized his size with much more aggression than he has played with in the past. And concerning Bennett’s recruitment, the No. 88 ranked player in the class of 2006 likes for schools with the nearby state university on top.
“I am looking at Kentucky, Florida, Florida State and Arkansas,” said Bennett. “Florida, Florida State and Arkansas have offered, and Florida is my favorite. Billy Donovan is a great coach.”

Still very much a work in progress, Bennett looked much better than he did this summer at the Nike All-American Camp. Although Hansbrough went off for over 30 points, Bennett battled the North Carolina bound big man, forcing him into tough shots at times and blocking his shot on several occasions. The most encouraging aspect of Bennett’s performance was that he did not back down from the physical and more talented Hansbrough.
“Tyler is a handful,” said Bennett after the contest. “I didn’t play as well tonight as I have been playing. I do feel like I have gotten stronger and better at scoring in the post. I think I am averaging around 10 blocks a game.”
