Ranked the No. 15 player in the class of 2015, the 6-foot-1 point guard from Lincolnshire (Ill.) Stevenson will announce his decision during a ceremony at his high school at 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
Brunson's father Rick confirmed the news to Rivals.com and said that his son is down to two finalists.
"He is happy with Illinois and Villanova and wants people to know that he will pick between those two," Rick Brunson said.
One of the nation's elite point guards, Brunson has recently visited each program. He saw what Jay Wright and the Wildcats had to offer over the weekend after checking in with John Groce and the Illini over Labor Day weekend.
Before Brunson makes his final choice, he will spend Tuesday meeting with both coaching staffs. Having lived in the Chicago area throughout high school, Illinois is somewhat of the hometown school. However, Brunson also spent a significant portion of his childhood growing up in the Philadelphia area and has plenty of ties to the area. Rick played at Temple from 1991-95.
Headed into Wednesday's decision the race to land Brunson's signature appears to be too close to call and the Tuesday visits with the coaching staffs figure to have a big impact on his final decision.
