49ers Land 2005 Power Forward

2005 prospect Mitch Mullis was hearing from Clemson, North Carolina State, and Vanderbilt, but the 6-foot-6, 225-pound power forward is holding a news conference today to announce his intentions of playing collegiately for the Charlotte 49ers.
“Mitch was hearing from Appalachian State and Vandy,” said Mullis’ coach at East Davidson High School, Matt Ridge. “NC State was beginning to call, and he visited Clemson. They were very interested. He chose Charlotte because he felt very comfortable with the coaching staff. It is relatively close, so his mom can watch him play. And he felt like Charlotte really met his needs.”

If Mullis had waited and let his recruiting process take its course, he certainly would have had offers from power conference schools to consider.
“Yes, he clearly would have received other offers,” said Coach Ridge. “The schools he was hearing from were hinting at offering him. He just wanted to focus on having a great senior year.”
Mullis is back at East Davidson High School in Thomasville, NC after having spent the last two seasons playing for Forsyth Country Day. Mullis will not have any eligibility left in the public school system after this season and will most likely transfer to a prep school next year.
“Mitch is playing really well,” said Coach Ridge. “He is averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds per game. He is extremely athletic.”
