SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Sophomore guard Ahamad Bynum is making a name for himself at one of Chicago's most storied basketball programs.

A 6-foot-1 scorer from the class of 2021, Bynum is making a name for himself at Chicago (Ill.) Simeon. The program has produced high level players for year including the likes of Derrick Rose and Jabari Parker.

With early offers from the likes of DePaul, Northern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago to go with Iowa State attention, Bynum is off to a great start and though he's known as a scorer with deep range on his jumper, he's looking to round out his game.

"When my shot isn't falling I can play defense and do everything else I can to help my team by doing other things," Bynum told Rivals.com. "I can rebound, get assists and put my teammates in position to make shots.

"I feel real confident in my ability to score. On days when my shot isn't falling I just have to start going to the hole instead of shooting all of those threes."

Many players have an identity crisis or want to be something they aren't, not Bynum. He's comfortable off the ball as a scorer.

"I think I'm a two guard," said Bynum. "I can play the point but coach has me as a shooting guard off the ball so I can score and that's my game."

Bynum is also active in seeking out the advice of those who can help him. His uncle Will Bynum was a Chicago high school star who played at Arizona and Georgia Tech before playing over 350 games in the NBA.

"I talk to him every day," said Bynum. "He teaches me the game and tells me everything about the game. I just listen to him and hopefully I can do well. He always tells me to stay aggressive and not be scared of the big stage and always perform and do whatever you can to help your team win."

Still in the first semester of his sophomore season, Bynum hasn't paid too much mind to his recruitment. He's not even sure when he will and that makes sense given his youth and current focus.

"I don't even know (about recruiting) right now because I'm so young," said Bynum. "I'm just playing right now, I'm just focused on hooping."
