BRADENTON, Fla. -- Power forward Silvio De Sousa, the fifth-ranked player in the class of 2018, is gearing up for his junior season at IMG Academy. In a time where most players in his class are starting to figure out their lists of schools, the six-foot-seven power forward says he plans to take all his visits and commit by the start of his senior year.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Silvio has picked up recent offers from Syracuse, Louisville, Maryland, Kentucky, and Miami. He plans on taking official visits to Louisville and Maryland sometime during his high school season.

Thoughts on Louisville: “I’ve gotten to know coach (Rick) Pitino and I know he’s a really good coach. I like how competitive the ACC is and I like the way coach Pitino uses his bigs in the offense. I’m excited just to see the campus and see if I could really see myself there."

Looking ahead to Maryland visit: “I like the style of game they play there. The guards are good at finding the bigs down low and I like the way they run in transition. Coach (Mark) Turgeon is another good coach and develops players for the next level.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

De Sousa has no other plans right now to visit any other schools outside Louisville and Maryland but that could change once the visit process starts. He said he’s definitely sticking to his commitment timeframe and will commit when he finds the right fit. Next month his high school season starts at IMG Academy where he’ll be playing alongside 2017 five-star Trevon Duval, and 2018 four-star Emmitt Williams.

RIVALS REACTION

It’s a good sign for both Maryland and Louisville that Silvio is choosing to line up official visits so early. Maryland commit Bruno Fernando played with De Sousa on his AAU team E1T1 and is also on the prep team at IMG Academy, so Maryland might have the slight upper hand with Bruno in his ear. He is a player that is taking every visit seriously and wants to get this process over with.
