Isaiah Kelly
Isaiah Kelly

Isaiah Kelly spends the high school season playing alongside five-star prospect Wendell Carter at Pace Academy in Atlanta. Carter gets the most attention, but Kelly has made his own name this travel season playing for the Atlanta Xpress 16-under.

Since June 15th, the first day college coaches could contact 2018 prospects, Kelly has heard from Wisconsin, Yale, Iowa State, FGCU, Xavier, Cincinnati, Memphis, Georgia, Clemson, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Harvard, Marquette, Vanderbilt, California and Butler. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound combo forward holds offers from Memphis, Cincinnati, Xavier, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Kelly talked about his interest in a few of the programs recruiting him.

Butler: “I’ve talked to Coach Schrage. We had a good 20 minute conversation and we just talked about life. He went to school right down the road here at St. Pius in Atlanta.”

Georgia: “They trying to recruit a lot of people around me like Wendell. I’ve talked to Jonas Hayes and Mark Fox. They talk to me when they come for Wendell. They are pretty good basketball coaches.”

Georgia Tech: “I like their new staff a lot. I go to workouts with Coach Pastner and they are pretty good.”

Iowa State: “They like me a lot. They offered me. I think it’s a nice program. They play really hard and have a good coaching staff.”

Wisconsin: “When I first got offered, I went to their elite camp and it was like two weeks later after that Coach Gard called me and talked to me. I met him when I was up at their elite camp. He’s a good coach.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Kelly will take a number of visits to finish up June and then turn his attention to impressing college coaches during July while playing with the Atlanta Xpress. Kelly is a strong candidate to see his offer list grow and potentially make a move up the rankings on Rivals.com.

RIVALS' REACTION

Like most athletes at Pace Academy, Kelly takes his academics very seriously. Expect schools with a strong reputation academically as well as on the court to be serious players in his recruitment. Georgia Tech, located just a few exits down I-75 from Pace Academy, will be one to watch here as he’s already spent time working out with Georgia Tech coaches and building a relationship with them.
