While the 6-foot-7 forward was not cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, North Texas is able to have him enroll as a non-qualifier. Missouri, where Mitchell signed a letter of intent to play in November of 20120, is prohibited by Big 12 rules from enrolling a non-qualifier.
As long as Mitchell takes care of business in the classrom, he will be eligible to play for Johnny Jones team mid-December of 2011 as a sophomore. Mitchell also has a chance of earning back a year of eligibility after his senior season if he's on track academically.
Headlined by Dallas (Texas) Kimball star Jordan Williams, North Texas has already signed one of the nation's premier non BCS recruiting classes for the class of 2011. The addition of the five-star Mitchell is a a major boost.
