2008 Williams getting high-major attention

2008 prospect DeMario Williams has led his Culleoka (Tenn.) High School team to a 27-2 record and No. 2 Class A state ranking as they play a region semifinal game tonight. Williams, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound combo guard, has already picked up significant high-major interest.
"DeMario has already taken unofficial visits to Alabama and Louisville," said Williams' AAU coach Jonathan Henderson of the Nashville Celtics. "Michigan State and Florida State are recruiting him. Clemson came to a practice this year, and Tennessee wants him to come to campus for an unofficial visit."

Although Georgia is not presently recruiting Williams, the Bulldogs are high on his list along with Louisville.
"DeMario's mother lives in Georgia right now, and he likes Georgia a lot," said Henderson. "He is sort of a Georgia guy. There is also a connection at his school with one of the administrators and Coach Pitino. Right now Georgia and Louisville are his top two schools."
A rangy and athletic guard, Williams can defend and can score from long range, midrange and at the basket. Although he is loaded with scoring ability, he also passes the ball well.
"DeMario can really pass in traffic," said Henderson. "He has the ability to take over games when needed, but he would just assume pass as shoot.
"He plays point for his high school team and can play both guard positions. He does tend to dribble a little too high at times, but it is getting better. He has only been playing point guard for a couple years."
An A/B student, Williams is averaging 17.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks per game. He is also a Mr. Basketball Finalist as only a sophomore.
