2006 Shaw Names a Top Three

Matt Shaw, the No. 41 ranked player in the class of 2006, is receiving recruiting interest from around the country. The 6-foot-8, 230-pound combo forward from Verbum Dei High School in Los Angeles, Calif., gave Rivals.com a top three list and commented on each school.
“I like UConn, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Texas, and Duke,” said Shaw. “My top three are UConn, Michigan, and Georgia Tech. As far as I know, Michigan is the only one to offer so far, but I’m getting interest from the others."

Michigan’s early recruiting efforts might give them the upper hand at this point in the process.
"I really like the Michigan coaching staff a lot,” he said. “I known [Assistant] Coach Ramsey since my freshmen year, and we've built a good relationship. Plus, they were the first to offer, and that means a lot to me.”
The academic situation at Georgia Tech stands out for Shaw.
"I’ve always wanted to be an architect, and Georgia Tech offers a good program. I’ve always been good in math. They have a good team and a good coaching staff, also."
The overall strength of the reigning champion’s program is the draw for Connecticut.
“UConn always has a strong basketball program, and they offer good academics."
Shaw has the offensive skills of a small forward, but he realizes he must improve defensively before he can defend that position.
"I need to work on my defense and my lateral quickness,” he said. “I also want to trim down a little bit and add more muscle."
Michigan, Illinois, Utah, Oregon and Louisville have all been to Los Angeles this Fall to watch Shaw workout. Duke also caught him in action while out west to watch Jamal Boykin.
