2006 Polk looking at seven

It was a great year for the Arizona Magic AAU program, which sent a large number of 2005 prospects to high major schools. Their top 2006 prospect Christian Polk, ranked No. 37 in the nation, is ready to move up to the Magic’s top team. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound combo guard from Deer Valley High School in Glendale, Ariz., is presently working with a list of seven schools.
“Indiana, UConn, Florida State, Miami, Texas, Kansas and UCLA are in really hard with Christian,” said Coach Earl Flaggs of the Arizona Magic. “I’d say that Indiana, UConn and Florida State are leading right now.

"In the spring, Christian will probably take two visits."
All seven schools have offered Polk according to Coach Flaggs.
The recent commitment of 2005 Arizona Magic prospect and new Deer Valley teammate Joey Shaw to Indiana should give the Hoosiers a boost in the recruitment of Polk, who has always had Indiana in his school list. In fact, it was an Indiana recruiting trip this fall to watch Polk workout that spurred the late recruitment of Shaw.
“Having Joey at Deer Valley has really helped Christian,” said Flaggs. “They workout together every day. With Joey’s length and the way he uses his hands on defense, it has really helped Christian learn to play against a bigger guard.
“It has also helped Joey out to play against a quick, athletic guard like Christian.”
Flaggs then noted specifics where Polk’s game has improved.
“When I first started working with Christian, I thought he was just a shooting guard,” he said. “But after watching him run the point this summer, I think he is a classic combo guard. He is a leader and can run a team. And then he is shooting the ball so well and just jumping out of the gym right now."
