2006 Podexter: Close to Commiting

2006 prospect Quincy Pondexter played an integral role in EBO’s championship at the adidas Super 64 in late July. The 6-foot-6, 180-pound small forward from Memorial High School in Fresno, Calif., is presently listing six heavyweights, but he does have one clear cut favorite where he has a strong family connection.
"My favorites are Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Washington, UCLA, and Oregon,” said Pondexter, the No. 61 ranked player in the class of 2006. “Arizona has offered and is definitely my leader. I may commit to them soon.

"I’ve always been a big Arizona fan. My dad played for coach Lute Olson while he was at Long Beach State and has always told me good things about him. I like the program a lot. I like how they get up and down the floor and yet are still very disciplined. I’m going to take an unofficial visit to Arizona in September. Then I may schedule an official visit for January."
Pondexter is a strong competitor who can effectively guard a shooting guard through a power forward and possibly even a point guard. Offensively, he is a developing small forward who will be able to play both forward positions if he grows a couple more inches. He can adequately shoot the ball, drive it to the basket, and pass it. With his passion for the game, those skills should only improve with time.
"I’m working on my shooting, ball handling, and I want to get bigger and stronger,” said Pondexter. “Me and my high school coach Will Hooker work all day long. My work ethic is ridiculous. I work out a lot with DeShawn Stevenson and Chris Jefferies. I believe it helps me a lot. They push me really hard.”
Pondexter averaged 21 points and 8 rebounds per game last high school season. His Memorial High School squad finished with a 24-10 record. Along with highly ranked 2006 teammates Brook Lopez and Robin Lopez, Pondexter is looking for Memorial to have an even more successful season this year.
