2006 Dortch to Lead Raptors

2006 prospect Taurus Dortch out of Ramsey High School in Birmingham, Alabama will be running the point this summer for a talented Birmingham Raptors team loaded with 2006 prospects. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Dortch is already receiving significant high major interest.
"I'm receiving early interest from UAB, Florida State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, Temple, and Stanford,” said Dortch, who averaged 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists per game this year. “I'm wide open as of now."

When considering a college, Dortch does not really care where it is located as long as it plays an up tempo style.
"I'm looking for a team that pushes the ball up the court,” he said. “I think that will suit my game the best. I don't care where I play. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind leaving the state."
One trait of Dortch’s game that stands out is his pull up jumper, a skill that even many top prospects do not possess.
"My greatest strengths are driving, penetrating, and pulling up,” he said. “I like to go to the hoop real hard then pull straight up for a mid range jumper. My three point shot has improved a lot. I shot the ball well the last half of the season."
Coach Norm Williams of the Birmingham Raptors noted Dortch’s pull up jumper as well.
"Taurus is a great athlete,” said Coach Williams. “He can handle and shoot the ball very well. He will be a big time recruit by his senior year. He has a real strong upper body. Taurus probably has the best pull up jumper I've ever seen. He's a hard worker and a good kid."
Along with his athleticism, Dortch has singled out his long range jumper as an area of his game that he wants to improve.
"I want to continue to get quicker and a little stronger,” said Dortch. “I also want to continue working hard on my jumper."
