2006 Catron has Big Ten offer

Joevan Catron, a 2006 three-star combo forward prospect out of Thornton Township High School in Phoenix, Ill., is a hard working player with a promising skill set. Catron, 6-foot-6, 215-pounds is interested in several high majors but favors the only one to offer so far.
"I’m interested in Illinois, Marquette, North Carolina, Michigan State, Wake Forest, and Duke,” said Catron. “They are all showing interest, but Illinois is the only one to offer so far. I would have to say they are my favorite."

So why does Catron favor the Fighting Illini at this point in his recruitment?
"I like that they were the first to offer, that means a lot,” he said. “I took an unofficial down there and really liked it. The campus is nice. The coaches are real cool. I’ve known Assistant Coach Tracy Webster for a while and we have built a good relationship.”
As to which school Catron will choose, early playing time and strong academics will be the most important factors.
"I want to go somewhere I can play,” he said. “I want to play early. I don’t want to have to wait around. They also must also have good academics."
The hard working Catron is a tough rebounder with a solid midrange game. He does, however need to improve his perimeter game for the collegiate level.
“I need to work on my three point range and my strength,” he said. “My vertical has improved dramatically. I got tired of people telling me I cant jump, so I went out and did something about it. I worked hard on my legs and did a lot of running on my own."
