2006 Bouldin: Big Time Prospect

2006 prospect Matt Bouldin is drawing high praise from numerous high major staffs according to his high school and AAU head coach Joe Ortiz. The No. 75 ranked player in his class is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound point guard at Thunder Ridge High School in Denver, Colo. who can flat out play.
“Matt is a very special player,” said Coach Ortiz of Thunder Ridge High School and the Colorado Select AAU team. “He has an amazing feel for the game. He sees the floor and can really pass the ball. He is deceptively quick for his size, and he shot over 40 percent from three on the year. He can do everything. He is also our best post player.”

Coach Ortiz then went on to talk about the two schools that have offered Bouldin.
“Colorado State and Colorado have offered,” he said. “His dad played at Colorado State and in the NBA for a while. Colorado saw him in an open gym this spring and offered him right away. They feel he already has a Big 12 body.”
There are plenty of other schools that appear to be ready to offer Bouldin as well.
“Kansas and North Carolina have called,” said Coach Ortiz. “Oregon saw him play and loved him. They loved the speed that he played the game at. Both Texas and Stanford have invited him to their elite camp. Florida State likes him, and Washington State just called the other day.”
As a freshman Bouldin played on Thunder Ridge’s state championship team. This past year he led them to a runner up finish while recording a double-double in the semifinal game. On the year he averaged 9 points and 6 assists per game.
“Those numbers do not do justice to the value of Matt as a player,” said Coach Ortiz. “His numbers will go up next season since we graduated some very good players, but he just does so many things on the court that help you win.”
