2003 Target: Mitchell Beauford
Mitchell Beauford is a 5-10, 185-pound combination gaurd from Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York.
With Japhet McNeil at the controls for Bob Oliva's
crew, junior combo guard Mitchell Beauford proved a
reliable target for the braided Brooklyn native's
BB's. Beauford scored from inside and out Friday in
Christ the King's 65-58 loss to Rice, armed with a
pillowly jumper and a nose for the hoop. Early on,
Beauford connected from mid-range on out, mostly of
the catch-and-shoot variety. Later on, Beauford showed
an ability to create his own shot both in the
halfcourt and in transition, possessing the
athleticism and body control to slither past bigger
defenders in the paint. Beauford collected 17 points
on the night.
Despite his size, Beauford battled for rebounds and
stick-backs, while at other times lending a hand with
the Royals's ball-handling. Beauford seems more
comfortable on the wing as opposed to the point, adept
at freeing himself up. He possesses good strength and
a solid frame.
Beauford carries an 84 scholastic average and scored
830 on the PSAT. He has not received much interest to
date but that will likely change through the spring
and summer.
