Mike Jones, a 6-5, 190-pound swingman from Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts, is one of the top 50 players in the 2003 class. Jones is terrific in transition. He knows how to finish with authority.
"He is a high-riser," said his AAU coach Gary Charles. "His defense is fine. It was the first weekend he played for us. So as we go along I will get a better feel for his game too."
Charles is referring to this past weekend at the Hoop Group Event in Rhode Island. Jones played well in the games RivalsHoops.com watched. "He is going to have to improve his left hand," Charles said. "He can shoot the ball well when he is alone too from the three-point line. But he will have to make some improvements when people are coming at him."
Charles said Jones is one of the best players he has seen in the 2003 class. "He has a lot of top schools already interested in him," Charles said. "Maryland, Connecticut, Ohio State, and Florida have already called me about him. I expect that list to grow as people watch him this spring and summer."
Jones does not have a leader in his recruiting process and has not scheduled any visits.
