2003 Target: John Kelly

Developing 6'11'' 240 lb big man John Kelly from DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, New Jersey, is a post prospect in the junior class worth keeping an eye on.
Kelly played a pivotal role in the New Jersey Roadrunners' run to the finals of the CYP Tournament by attacking the glass and establishing himself as a defensive presence. In the Roadrunners' opening round

win Kelly matched up with Holy Cross-bound BF Kevin Hyland from Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY, and chipped in 13 points while making a substantial impact at the defensive end with his shot blocking.
In the finals of the tourney against Riverside Church, Kelly turned in an inspired effort against undersized but tough post player Willie Irick from Teaneck High School, crashing the boards and making his presence felt defensively.
Kelly's size and soft shooting touch will likely make him a hot commodity come summer. He isn't as mobile as some other post players, but has pretty good hands and a developing post game.
Kelly has heard early on from Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova, Penn State, Providence, and Boston University. Penn St. has offered. John has already taken two unofficial visits
to Penn St. and the staff at Providence would like him to make an unofficial trip up there, as well.
Kelly averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds, 6.5 blocks, and 4 assists at DePaul Catholic this past season.
John first came to our attention at the Rumble in the Bronx last June, and we checked him out over the course of the summer playing the Roadrunners He seems
to have made some strides in his game since last summer.
John carries a 3.0 GPA. He will take the SAT for the first time in May.
